FISP EMERGENCY REPAIRS: during the initial FISP inspection of this glazed white brick cavity-wall building, MVN observed several areas of the facade in UNSAFE conditions. An apparent manufacturing defect in the glazed brick was causing large sections of the face brick to delaminate and spall off. This combined with an underabundance of aged and failing brick anchor ties put several panels at risk of collapse. MVN coordinated the emergency filing, stabilization, and repair of these areas including a bulkhead screen. Emergency repairs bought the building time to examine the extent of the problem before deciding on a permanent solution.
PRE-CONSTRUCTION SERVICES: after conducting follow up probes around the building, MVN determined that the entire cavity wall system on the building was beginning to fail and recommended wholesale facade reskinning in lieu of the continued nightmare of reoccurring maintenance. Several solutions were proposed before a rainscreen system was chosen. MVN then worked on the building to explore the implications of this change in facade type, document and test the existing conditions, create biddable documents for preliminary pricing, and coordinate with a design architect to finalize the design of the new envelope. Lastly, a series of scale mockups were designed and constructed to compare the look and installation issues associated with several different rainscreen products before a final system could be chosen and final bid documents prepared.
